Designing with locally adapted and native species creates habitat for pollinators and wildlife, and food producing plants connect you to your garden. Careful selection and placement of plants and landscape features creates a beautiful and integrated garden, which will thrive for years to come.All-electric and organic stewardship and maintenance means less noise & more vigor for your landscape. Trees are valuable, long-lasting assets in your landscape and deserve expert care. Our experienced pruners provide precise, species-specific pruning—whether for productive fruit trees or magnificent statement trees—ensuring health, beauty, and proper seasonal maintenance. Feeling overwhelmed by your garden? We’re here to help! Our stewardship coordinator will assess your yard, identify key areas for clean-up, and create a plan to reset your space while preserving valuable plants and features. We’ll provide an estimate and get your yard back in shape. Teddy makes sure all of our new design/build projects go off without a hitch, and coordinates between our designer, crew, and clients to make sure everything runs as smoothly as possible. His attention to detail helps our projects wrap up beautifully every time. Kay has worked with plants in a variety of ways; from maintaining upscale sports clubs and city parks, to restoring habitat in urban forests and managing an environmental education program. Equipped with a passion for native plants and a certificate in Holistic Landscape Design from Bastyr U. as well as an ecoPRO certification from the WSNLA, Kay is here to help create thriving habitat for you and our non-human neighbors.  An advocate for all creatures big and small, Basil has extensive knowledge on native plants and pollinators. He is working on his degree and is passionate about protecting the plants and animals that were here before us. Basil is also an excellent graphic designer & puts his skills to use making educational stickers about pollinators and habitat restoration. Nathan has extensive pruning experience and knowledge, both from taking care of his grandparents sizable property for over a decade, as well as studying pruning at Edmonds Community College. He is passionate about soil health, fruit tree care, and making organic and fermented fertilizers and amendments. Andrew has been building high-end landscapes throughout the region for the last ten years, mastering many skills and constructing some of the finest gardens in the city. He's brought a ton of experience to the Rutheo Designs team, and is now learning elements of sustainability and native plants in our work together. Karina has a close knowledge of native plants throughout our region, as a result of working with the non-profit Dirt Corps and spending lots of time hiking in the woods. Her knowledge helps our installation team make sure our designs get translated properly to the ground. Russell came to Rutheo Designs from the UW Arboretum, where he was tending the magnolia collection and coordinating restoration efforts in the riparian zones. His vast ecological knowledge and experience in resource management made him a perfect fit for our stewardship coordinator role, where he continues to grow our stewardship and maintenance programs while tending to our gardens. Rutheo Designs acknowledges that we live and work on the ancestral lands of the Coast Salish and Duwamish tribes, who have stewarded these ecosystems since time immemorial. We could not call this city home without the Salish People and the Duwamish Tribe. We aim to honor the original caretakers of this land by preserving and restoring the natural ecosystem we live in, and educating others about the role indigenous communities have played in land stewardship since time immemorial. Using native and edible plants, minimizing our carbon footprint, and paying Real Rent to the Duwamish Tribal Nation are all ways we uphold our commitment.

Teddy and his crew did an amazing job resetting our backyard. They added an area with rubber tiles for working out and remade and extended an old, unusable brick patio. We are very happy with the results; it is now our little oasis. The communication and customer service were excellent, definitely recommend for complex projects.

We had Rutheo designs transform our plain, hilly backyard, into a playground/forest oasis! The team was absolutely amazing from the consult to the finish. They were great at communicating, very open to collaboration and tidy during the install. They were also very excited to provide education on native plants and how to care for them. I highly recommend.

Rutheo Designs recently completed a planting project in our backyard, and we couldn’t be happier with the results! They carefully selected a variety of native plants that are beneficial to birds and pollinators. Teddy kept us well-informed throughout the entire process, Kay crafted a thoughtful and aesthetically pleasing plant design, Robert and Karina executed the installation perfectly. We're excited to watch the plants flourish in the coming year and beyond. We’ll definitely be reaching out to them for future yard projects!

Would 10/10 recommend Rutheo! They do incredible work for both hardscaping and landscaping. They were able to transform our lumpy dirt patch of a yard into a beautiful, calm, oasis of greenery. Very much appreciate their attention to detail, consultative approach, and use of native species. Super excited to see everything grow in and really pop this spring!

We recently worked with the crew at Rutheo on the landscaping of our front yard and we could not be happier with the results. The team was great to work with and their professionalism and attention to detail is notable. They implemented a design we brought to them, but I would happily engage with them for the design portion of any future project; everyone, including the guys doing the hardscaping and planting, has excellent design sense and worked collaboratively with our designer and with me when there were any questions. I heartily recommend Rutheo Designs.
