Urban Garden Wisdom

Jessica received a Certificate in Holistic Landscape Design and a Permaculture Design Certificate from Bastyr University. She completed the Master Composter and Sustainability Steward program through Seattle Public Utilities along with a 8 month internship at Tilth Alliance, where she still volunteers frequently. She has also been involved with soil health advocacy through contract work with Kiss the Ground. Jessica is happiest when her hands are in the soil! We would like to acknowledge the Duwamish People who were the traditional stewards of the land we now call “Seattle”. We honor, with gratitude, the land itself and the Duwamish people, past and present, who lived and took care of the landscape and the surrounding beings throughout generations.  We are committed to continue learning and being conscious stewards of the earth by practicing principles that are in alignment with nature.

Jessica is awesome! The whole process was very transparent and enjoyable. She's a super nice person and very knowledgeable. I have a 12000 sqft property and had her design the whole thing. She was able to incorporate all of the items I wanted and make it look gorgeous! I received my final design and implementation booklet and it's so detailed and really helps with knowing what to expect for the years to come. I wanted a foodscape with play area for a toddler, kitchen garden, social areas, and to have it be as low maintenance as possible and she delivered! It will be a few years before I finish the project as I am doing it myself, but the planning aspect went very smoothly because of her!

Jessica spent an hour and a half with me answering my many questions and solving a number of issues I was dealing with in my garden. I couldn’t have been more pleased with the quality of the information she gave me, and with how much she helped me. I would enthusiastically recommend her to anyone who needs help with their perennial or vegetable garden or composting.

This is an incredibly overdue RAVE for Jessica. She helped us with a complete garden redesign and it was a fun and really successful project. We do not have a huge budget to work with so wanted to execute major change over several stages, and she was happy to take that into account. Jessica is really knowledgeable but so approachable, and really wants to help you learn as much as you’d like to along the way about the choices and why they work well in your space. I never felt like we were being upsold on choices which is an experience we’ve often had with other contractors. From eliciting lots of feedback about our preferences and offering several options for the overall design (we needed direction because we have zero experience or expertise), to being incredibly diligent about mapping our whole property and identifying gas and sewer lines etc, Jessica was truly collaborative while offering expert guidance. I have no doubt that she spent many hours on our design that she didn’t bill us for, and was always very supportive, communicative, and generous. I’d highly recommend partnering with her if you’re overwhelmed by your yard. We can’t wait to bring the whole design to life!

I had a compost coaching session with the goal of being able to get the worm bin at my job up and running again. Jessica walked me through the entire vermicompost process, showed me her worm bins, and gave me a lot of tips and tricks! With all the information out there on composting, it was so nice and beneficial to see things hands-on. Jessica made me feel very welcome in her home, took the time to answer all of my questions, and sent me off with all the resources I needed to feel ready to start my project. She’s a gem and I’d recommend her to anyone!
